As I’ve mentioned, I plan to be very prepared for any future hard drive crashes. Between offline data backup and portable apps, I should be well on my way to having a hard drive free existence. I haven’t yet received my USB flash drives that I ordered, so I don’t yet know for sure if the portable apps idea will really hold water or not, but for the moment, I’m assuming it will be a good idea. While I’m waiting to find out, I’ve been thinking about a calendaring app. Every time my hard drive dies, I lose all my calendar information…reminders, etc. And because my memory is really lousy, I depend heavily upon reminders. A calendar also helps keep me productive and when you work for yourself, with no one checking up on you, productivity isn’t always easy to achieve without a little help.

Now, I know there have been online calendar solutions for a long time, but I’ve resisted them mainly because they aren’t available to me OFFLINE. And with me living out in the boondocks, and my satellite net connection losing connectivity fairly often (especially if it even smells the hint of rain coming), I need to know that my calendar is available to me at all times. Ok, if my electricity goes out, then even an offline calendar is inaccessible, but that happens much less often than my net connection being unavailable. So, of course, a portable calendar app is a good solution, but just for fun, I decided to see what the latest online calendar apps were available anyway. And boy, oh boy, am I glad I did.

I found what looks to be the best, most perfect example of a fabulous Web 2.0 application. It is an online calendar, yes, but it’s much, much more, and it is called Scrybe. I beg you to watch the video below to see all the features. Try to watch it all the way through because the features will astound you. The one feature that makes it perfect for my scenario is the fact that it syncs up offline so I can use it on or off line. Perfect! But there’s so much to this app that I just had to get my hands on it. Even though it’s beta invitation only, I ran over to Invite Share and had an invitation within just a few minutes. You can do the same. Just sign up with Invite Share and search for iscrybe.com invites. Ok, so without further ado, here’s the demo movie of this incredible app. It blows all the other calendar competitors out of the water, and I think I’m going to love this little productivity app. (Oh, and did I mention it is free?).

(I still plan on testing any portable calendar apps I find, but I’m not sure any of them will beat out scrybe).
