Another grandchild on its way

My second grandchild is incubating. This newbie is due to arrive mid-January, making him or her a Capricorn like me. That’s got to be a good thing! The kids (that’s what I call the newbie’s mom and dad) are hoping for a boy so they can use the boy’s name they picked out when my granddaughter was born nearly two years ago. I’m hoping I can somehow talk them out of the boy’s name they’ve chosen, although I doubt I can.

They want the name to be Damien. They claim they don’t care that the name evokes images of a demon child based on some old movie that came out before they were born. Ok, I guess I can sort of understand that, but tons of people will hear that name and immediately associate the little fellow with a demon child. How can you make a good first impression that way? To me, that’s like starting a brand new website, and calling it ThisSiteSucks.com. Oh well, what can I do? I’m just the maw-maw, with no real say in what the kids name their new kid.

In the end, they’ll either:

A) Have a girl again, so the name Damien will be shelved yet again.
B) Have a boy, and somehow I’ve changed their mind to name him something else.
C) Have a boy, name him Damien, and I’ll just have to get over it.

More than likely, it will end up being C. Oh well.

UPDATE: They named him Donovan. Yay!
