Portable Apps Will Not Be My Future

I had hoped that I could become less hard drive dependent by running off of Portable Apps, but my hopes were dashed today. This might be useful for some people, but the fact that the apps load and run EXTREMELY slowly makes it a deal-killer for me. If you do decide to try it out, make sure you have several hours free to install the apps. Some are quick, but some take a really long time to install.

Oh well, I’ll just use my brand new Lexar USB Flash Drive as a backup drive. For now, I’ll just copy my Documents folder over to the flash drive once in a while, and I’m also backing everything up nightly to Mozy Online Backup, so… Continue reading

How I Plan To Survive My Next Computer Crash

My entire weekend was ruined when my computer died early Saturday morning. I wasn’t entirely surprised. My computers tend to give up the ghost every 2-3 years, and the latest had lasted nearly 4 years. I wasn’t too worried. I have backups, right? Well, yes, sort of. For some reason, my backups stopped happening 4 months ago. I don’t know why. So my latest backup is really old. It’s time to move to the online backup model.
