I cannot control myself

When an idea strikes, I can’t seem to say no to myself. Heck, sometimes I don’t even have an actual idea, and I still can’t control it. What am I talking about? Well, let’s take last night as an example. I was chatting with a friend of mine who was looking for a good domain name for an idea he had. So, I was running some possibilities through Godaddy* to come up with a creative name for him. Along the way, I got sidetracked, and discovered a fun little domain name was available (that had nothing to do with his idea). The name itself means nothing. It’s just two short words, that when put together, evoke a funny picture in your head. So, what did I do? I bought the domain name. I then set about creating a design for it. That part was pretty easy, since the funny picture that the name conjured up gave me instant design opportunities.

So, what’s the problem? Well, for one thing, I just don’t have time to add yet another site to my already overloaded days. And even worse, I didn’t even have any idea what the site would be used for! So, the next thing I had to do was come up with some kind of idea for what the site would even be about! Aaaargh. I get myself into a pickle sometimes.

Luckily, this time, things sort of flowed. The name inspired a design. The design inspired a catch phrase. And the catch phrase inspired an idea for what I could actually do with the site. So, I’m all set now…well, except of course, for creating the content, doing the SEO work, obtaining backlinks, promoting it, etc., etc., etc.

I really really need to learn to control myself when inspiration strikes.

LOL, no Dave, those days are long gone. However, it could be after-effects of those bygone years. :)
