Plugin Easily Turns WordPress Into Membership Site
In Membership Sites: An Introduction, you were introduced to the concept of what a membership site is, how you can use them, and what kind of income they can generate. I also recommended one of the products that many people use to create membership sites, but I wanted to mention another product designed just for WordPress users. It’s called WishList Member and it’s a WordPress plugin that enables you to turn any WordPress site into a full-blown membership site. And like any other WordPress plugin, you just upload the plugin files, activate, set some options, and within a few minutes, you have a membership site up and running.

This plugin comes with a reasonable one-time single site price ($97 at the time of this writing), but doesn’t skimp on features. Here are a few:
- Unlimited membership levels so you can charge different prices for different levels of content.
- Create free, trial, or paid membership options (or any combination of the three).
- Let your members be sequentially upgraded from one level to the next automatically. This gives them the ability to go from Module 1 to Module 2 to Module 3, etc. And of course, you control which level of member gets to see what content.
- Control the length of time for memberships
- Let members receive material via RSS feeds, but prevent non-members from receiving the feeds.
- Give sneak peaks at the paid material by showing non-members a portion of the content, with a “more” link that leads to protected content that only members can view.
- Shopping cart integration ability
- Autoresponder integration
One of the best “features” of the WishList Member plugin is the extensive support video library that you have access to. There are currently over 30 videos that describe exactly how to handle any particular feature. For instance, if you’re interested knowing how to use WishList to do an email broadcast, there’s a video for that. Want to integrate with PayPal or Clickbank? There are video for that. Wondering how to move membership levels? Yep, there’s a video for that.
Now, I’m not a big fan of sitting through videos. I’d rather quickly scan through written documentation. WishList Member comes with that as well with screenshot-by-screenshot guides.
If you love WordPress and want to offer a membership site, WishList Member plugin is an excellent way to make it happen.
A well-known pro blogger and friend, Chris Garrett (Chris co-authored ProBlogger Book – Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income with Darren Rowse), discusses WishList in particular, and running membership sites in general, in a two-part audio interview. Definitely worth a listen if you’re considering using WishList Member.

Donna,thanks for keeping us up to date with the hottest plugins. This sounds like a winner. Everyone seems to be charging for membership sites these days.
@Ileane
Right, Ileane, everyone is charging for memberships these days, so anyone out there considering doing the same can do it pretty easily. Of course, anyone wanting to create a membership site needs to have content worth signing up for. But the technical aspect of it isn’t an issue.
This looks great! I have just been discussing memberships sites and whether that is the way my blog will be heading in the future and finding a plugin like this makes it seem so simple.
