Paid Email Newsletters – Ever Tried It?

I was recently speaking with a guy who has created a course on how to bring in income by offering an email newsletter – that people actually pay to receive. Go figure! I’ll be honest, I never even considered the idea of creating a paid email newsletter. Once I thought about it though, I realized it was really just a simplified form of a membership site, which I’ve talked about a few times before. In a nutshell, it’s charging small amounts for delivering excellent content, in a simple and easy to consume way.

So I downloaded and checked out the course. It’s all laid out pretty simply. There are 7 videos that aren’t too long, so your mind doesn’t tend to drift. Each module is accompanied by an outline and additional resources. It’s a good yet simple course that explains the whats, whys, and hows of setting up and marketing a paid email newsletter to subscribers in your niche. Nothing elaborate, just the information you need to know to put it all together.

It’s one of those topics that I thought, “Huh. Why didn’t I think of this before?” I’m not sure it will work for every topic or niche, but it’s at least worth thinking about as a possible additional monetization method. The course doesn’t cost much, either in money or time, so if you were thinking of new ways to get paid for writing great content, it’s worth considering this. Here’s the link to the course. Let me know if you try it and how it works for you.

Cool! I never realized before that newsletters can actually be used to gain profits. Thanks for this!

When I saw the title of this in my RSS reader client I thought it would be about paying to use an email newsletter software like Aweber or iContact.

Paying to receive a newsletter is a great idea if you have something that people will part with money to get their hands on. The newsletters and sites I run don’t offer anything worth paying for. :)

I have seen very few marketers who have paid newsletter, like f.e. Mike Dillard. The person who can do it must really have tremendous value and then it is very good residual income source. The alternative to this is selling solo ads to your list.

I’ve seen some marketers try it in the past (Ryan Deiss), but quickly scramble the idea.

I still think this might be something worth looking into.

I think I am like everyone else here and have never considered a paid newsletter. You would want some kick arse content though or you would be losing subscribers very quickly and also potentially return visitors to your blog.
