Am currently using Safecopy backup which offers a free unlimited 3GB trial version for life.Safecopy backup works well for me and since i started using it files are so secure.

I currently use Mozy and have over 235 GB backed up. I like their new feature – the ability to backup to a local, external hard drive as well as to their servers. This allows you to easily make two backed up copies of your data.

I use Mozy and am quite happy with it so far. It does seem to be taking a bit longer to upload my initial back than I’d hoped (even with very fast bandwidth), but would still recommend it, for the peace of mind of having it offsite.

You can actually try Mozy for free if you like (you have to hunt around the website to find the option, but its there, limited to 2Gb I think).

I now use both an external hard drive and mozy. You can never be to careful about backups.

In general, I am against paying any repetitive maintenance fees but based on your article, it could make sense. I purchase a Maxtor external backup drive with software to continuously protect my computer(s). The cost was about $150. This is about 3 year of maintenance fees and I could still lose everything in the case of a fire. It does look like the smart way to go. Thanks for the scoop.
