Use Coupon Codes For New Site Ideas
TweetI’m not sure how many times a month I have a “brilliant” idea for a new website, but it’s a lot more than I can actually pursue. When the “brilliance” of the idea doesn’t fade within a day or two, though, there’s a good chance I’ll at least buy a domain name from Godaddy for the idea, just in case I pursue it further. Now, I know $10 or so isn’t all that much money, but I’d still rather pay less for a domain that I may or may not ever get around to developing. How can I pay less? With a coupon code, of course!
Finding Ones That Consistently Work
In the past, I’ve had hit-and-miss luck with coupon codes. Sometimes, they’d already expired, and sometimes, they just didn’t work for no apparent reason. In the last few months, however, I’ve noticed some coupon codes that Andy of Comluv has been sharing from his friend Brian, and they always seem to work great. So when I noticed that his friend is a sponsor of the Famous Bloggers Comluv contest, I decided it was time to share this little money-saving gem with everyone.
Good for Renewals Too!
The really cool thing about these Godaddy coupon codes is that they work for both new domain registrations AND renewals. That’s hard to find, and it’s great to be able to get discounts on my domains when they come up for renewal. You can also get coupon codes for other Godaddy services there too, although I generally don’t recommend Godaddy for hosting. Besides the fact that their hosting isn’t the best, it’s really not a good idea to be completely dependent upon one company for both your domain name and your website. If that one company goes bellyup, or just decides they don’t like your site anymore, you’ve lost everything. If you get your domain name from Godaddy, and your hosting from someone else (I recommend Hostgator), then you’re unlikely to lose both the name and the site all at once.
Bookmark While You’re There
So, bookmark the Godaddy coupon codes page now while it’s on your mind. You don’t want to wonder where those coupon codes are the next time you have a “brilliant” idea for a new site!

FYI – A great source for coupon codes (aside from GoDaddy’s newsletter) is their affiliate program.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. I’m guessing I’d need to actually log in once in a while, huh? LOL. I’ll check that out at some point. Thanks, Jeremy.
Donna, while your topic centers around domain name coupons, I want to add a point about coupons in general. I thinks sites should be more proactive about rewarding existing clients like GoDaddy does with renewals.
I recently opened a seller account on e-junkie.com after having read some positive things about it. Since I was already an affiliate for another seller, I figured it would be a piece of cake to use the coupon that was recommended.
(It would have given me 67 days of free service, vs. the normal 7!)
Unfortunately, there was absolutely no way to insert the coupon code. At the time, I had assumed I needed a separate account. When I got to the end and entered the coupon code as a NEW seller, e-junkie noted my email address and kicked out the application. Eventually, I gave up and just took the 7 day offer.
That left a bad taste, I’ll tell you.
I looked all over their help and FAQ data to see what the deal was…no dice.
Their service is too compelling for me to walk away as a result of that snafu. But, like I said, there should be something for existing customers.
Cheers,
Mitch

Totally agree, Mitch. I realize “new” customers are always sought after, but “old” customers shouldn’t be left out in the cold. They’ve helped the company (whoever that may be) get to this point, so a reward is in order for them as well. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the same reward but *some* token of gratitude would be nice.
