Early morning donkey roundup
My mornings are routine. I wake up, stumble to the coffee pot, stumble to the office, and spend the next 2 hours waking up while reading emails, blogs, etc. This morning was anything but routine. My dogs began barking wildly so I looked out the sliding glass door to see what was going on. The donkeys had come a-calling!
My neighbor’s donkeys had escaped and were visiting us. There is a fence separating them from us which travels the length of the fields from the road back to the pond that covers both properties. The pond acts as a natural fence. Today, however, the water level at the edge of the pond had apparently dropped low enough to allow the donkeys to pass from their property to ours. It was round-up time! Round ‘em up, cowboy!
So Jackie, in her pajamas, rounded up the donkeys and brought them safely back to their property. I watched, coffee cup in hand, as she herded them towards the sound of their owner shaking feed in a bucket. It was an amusing way to start my morning. Definitely not my normal routine.
