Brand Your Site With A Favicon

After you sweated over the perfect design for your site or blog theme, did you forget one last detail…the favicon? You know that little icon that browsers use to identify a bookmarked Web site? Does your site or blog have its own unique favicon? (Look up. See the purple butterfly just before the dazzlindonna.com blog address in your browser’s address bar? That’s my favicon).

A favicon is a minor detail, but it can go a long way towards helping readers remember who you are. Most people have a huge list of bookmarks, and if they see a familiar favicon next to yours, they will be more likely to visit you again.

Finding Relevant Conversations

conversingAs I’ve previously mentioned, networking with others in your topic area is extremely important for building your base of site visitors. If you haven’t already established yourself as a regular within the communities that serve your niche, you may be wondering how to find them. Here are just a few examples of searches you can run on your favorite search engine to find the communities you should participate in. Undoubtedly, these searches will turn up many, many networks of people who are all interested in your niche topic, but you’ll need to pick 2 or 3 that appeal the most to you. Look for those communities that are active and that seem to have intelligent conversations amongst experienced people.

Promote Locally, Benefit Globally

promotion dirty jobPromotion. Sometimes it feels like a dirty word. For some people, the act of promoting themselves, their sites, or their brands is the hardest part of working for themselves. Over time, we’ll discuss lots of promotion ideas so that what seems hard suddenly looks much, much easier. Today, I wanted to focus on local promotion. Sure, a site is usually (though not always) global in nature, especially if it is an information-based site such as this one. So why would I want to promote a global site on a local basis?
