When I first started out in affiliate marketing, I was broke. Every tiny bit of cash I earned was greeted with cheers of joy, and deep breaths of gratitude. Ad blindness has long been a problem for anyone trying to monetize a site via ads. Site visitors are so accustomed to seeing ads that they no longer really “see” them. If you are hoping that your visitors will actually click those ads, it’s a lot less likely if they didn’t “see” the ad in the first place. So what should you do?

You should occasionally test new placements, new formats, new colors, etc., but you should also be on the lookout for monetization models that stand out from the crowd. So many people think they don’t have the knowledge or talent to make a living online. You’ve taken the plunge, become a blogger, and you are sharing your knowledge. In return, you are earning money from various sources such as Adsense, sponsored ads, and affiliate programs. At some point, you get an email encouraging you to become a member of some site (for a price), with the promise of getting exclusive content in return.

When you are searching for affiliate programs to join, you should read all of their terms and conditions, as lots of important information for you might be in there. However, even before reading the “do’s and dont’s” listed within all that legalese, you should pay special attention to what your cut is.
