15 Cigarettes to go

Tonight, once this cigarette pack is empty (15 more cigs to go), I’m going to stop smoking. Actually, my household is going to stop smoking, which is an important point. I smoke a lot. A whole lot. Average days are 3 packs a day, but stressful days can be 5-packers. And I’ve been smoking for 30 years. The thing is, I also know that I have the ability to quit. I’m a “cold turkey” kind of gal. Just stop. End of story. But I’ve discovered that if there are other smokers in the house, and hence, cigarettes, that eventually something will cause me to pick one up. So, for the first time, the house will be cigarette-free.

To be honest… Continue reading

Day trips and real vacations

This Saturday, I’m finally going to get around to going to the Global Wildlife Center. I’ve been wanting to go there for years. It’s only about half an hour from where I live. Why is it that locals are the last people to visit the nearby attractions? Anyway, I’m jazzed about it. Giraffes are my favorite animals and I’ll get to see them up close and personal. I love zoos, but this should be even more fun.

So that’s the day trip that I’m about to take, but I’m also planning this year’s real vacation. Last year, we went to Gatlinburg, and that was loads of fun. This year, I’m leaning towards either San Antonio or Santa Fe. I’ve… Continue reading

Photo fun time

I’m bored, so I thought I’d bore you too! It’s just like visiting your inlaws house right after they return from vacation, and you have to sit through their boring slides. That’s right. Today, you get to look at some DazzlinDonna photos. Woohoo! :D

First up is a glamour shot of me when I was 30 years old. This one always cracks me up.

The ominous sound of silence

It started out like a normal day. Woke up, checked email, did my morning routine, and then headed out to the post office to get my mail. (Yeah, you remember, I have to actually leave my house now to get my mail because the punks kept destroying my mailbox). So anyway, I get to the post office, grab the TV Guide out of the box (my only mail today), get back into my car, turn the key, and ………………………..

Silence.

Nothing.

Not even a click.

Aw man….

My car wouldn’t start. I sat there stunned. I thought I’d done something wrong. Seriously. I’m getting older, and things are slipping my mind, so I just figured I’d done something stupid. I checked to make sure the gear was… Continue reading

Senior citizen cell phone

Cell phone companies really need to make simpler phones. Having been the caretaker of several senior citizens (family), some with Alzheimers, I know how important it is to be able to give an older person a cell phone that they can:

1. See! (Large, clear text and big buttons)
2. Hear!
3. Understand! (Simple to use, no gizmos)

The senior citizen population is HUGE and growing, yet the cell phone companies mostly ignore them completely. The only real choice I’ve been able to find is from a company called Jitterbug. I like the choices they have, and am ordering one for my father-in-law today. Still, there shouldn’t just be one company to choose from. So, c’mon cell phone companies, start making some phones that cater… Continue reading

Doing taxes now

Some family members operate a tax service here in town, and they managed to convince me to help them out during tax season. So, for the last week, I’ve actually been getting up, getting dressed way early in the morning, and going out to a J-O-B. Gawd, I haven’t worked outside my home in so long that this is killing me.

But even worse, they failed to tell me just how crazy this work is at this time of year. I thought I would be just helping out part time, but no, they’ve roped me into working like a dog for 10-12 hours per day, 6 days a week. Not that they don’t really need the help. People line up outside the door and down the… Continue reading

Punks 3 - Me 0

The punks win. I give. On December 6th, they vandalized my mailbox. Two weeks later, they did it again. Today, the punks did it for the last and final time.

It’s final, because I give. There will no longer be a mailbox in front of my house. Instead, I’ll drive into town every day to go to the Post Office and get my mail at a P.O. Box. Of course, this means that there will be some things that I won’t be able to have delivered because some companies won’t deliver to a P.O. Box. But that’s just something I’ll have to live with. I just can’t keep digging holes and pounding things into the ground every few… Continue reading

It’s my birthday!

Despite the fact that aging sucks, and birthdays should be a drag now, I still can’t help but feel goofy and giddy because it’s my birthday today. Today, I inch just that much closer to the day when I will earn my AARP discount card! Woohoo! Ok, that’s still 3 years away, but I’m looking forward to getting old lady discounts everywhere I go. LOL. So to celebrate my birthday, I thought I’d share this funny birthday video with all of you. C’mon, sing along with it, or at least hum it, and help me celebrate my birthday. I’ll be thinking of all of you when I have my birthday lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant today. And I’ll raise my Margarita… Continue reading

Merry Christmas!

May your holidays be bright!

Here’s a little Christmas card just for you.

Mailbox vandals strike again

Remember the punks who messed up my mailbox a couple of weeks ago? They struck again last night. They even did this during a torrential rain storm. The kind that makes you wonder if the entire state is going to float away.

So I called the Sheriff’s department this time. I told the lady who answered that I wanted to report vandalism. She said to me, “Mailbox?”. I said yes. She then yelled loudly, “Got another mailbox!”. She next informed me that I was one of a long list of people who’d had their mailboxes vandalized, but the good news is that they’ve already arrested someone for it - a juvenile of course.

She took my name, address and phone number. Not… Continue reading
