If you haven’t already taken the plunge to start an online ebusiness, now is the time! The rising costs of gas, food, and almost everything else is forcing us all to have to make more money just to make ends meet. In addition, everyone’s job is potentially on the line, as companies will be forced to make hard decisions and deep cuts as the economy gets worse and the recession looms larger. So not only do you need more money right now, but the threat of losing your job completely gets more real as each day passes.
Now is the time to start your ebusiness. It may not help you financially in the short term, since few… Continue reading

I’ve said before that I bumbled my way through to success at making a living online, because when I started, there were no clear instruction manuals or step-by-step guides to help me avoid the pitfalls. Luckily for you, those days are gone. You can find lots of information online about how best to make a living as an Internet Entrepreneur. Some of it you read right here all the time, or in my ebook. Sometimes I point out resources that exist elsewhere. I try my best to only mention resources that are really worth your time, and if the cost is zero, it gets bonus points.
Today is one of those days. I’ve been waiting for this newest resource to be available because I… Continue reading

The new year is fast approaching, and I wanted to give you a quick idea of where this blog will be heading next year. We live in a sound bite world these days, and none of us have tons of time for lots of blog posts anymore. So, I may post a little less often, but I plan to make those posts as meaningful and useful as possible. I hope to be able to bring both inspiration and solid ideas for making your online career and life a little easier. If you have specific thoughts on what you’d like to see here, let me know in the comments. Together, you and I can travel through 2008 with a little more insight.
P.S. Want to know… Continue reading

Everyone should at least consider incorporating their small home business. I’m no expert on incorporation, and I could never hope to be, so I’m not going to try to explain this whole process to you. In general, however, you should do some research on this because incorporating may have the following benefits for you (depending upon what type you choose):
- reduces your personal liability for business debts or lawsuits
- saves on taxes
- makes your business more credible
- makes your business easier to sell or transfer
Let me reiterate that I’m no expert (not even close), so I don’t want to give you any more advice on this, because I’m afraid I’d be giving incorrect or bad advice. Obviously, discussing this with a lawyer is a good idea, but in the meantime you… Continue reading

Thanksgiving is less than a week away. For those of you in the US, you’re probably already thinking about planning the meal or looking forward to getting together with the family. Even if families cannot be together during the rest of the year, Thanksgiving is one of the holidays that tends to draw everyone to the same place. We all get to catch up with one another’s lives, and find out who is doing what out there in the big, wide world.
This is a perfect time to discuss your plans to work from home. Of course, if the idea is news to everyone, you’ll probably get some resistance, but that’s ok. Constructive feedback is great. You do need to… Continue reading

The term “joint venture” is usually associated with either large corporations or well-known Internet Marketing “gurus”. In either case, you can pretty much assume that large amounts of money is involved.
You and I aren’t mega-conglomerations. We don’t own IBM or get invited to speak at seminars costing thousands of dollars to attend. We are who we are, but that’s no reason not to consider joint ventures.
Ok, let’s back up a little and define the term “joint venture”. Generally speaking, it is when two or more people or organizations combine resources (financial or otherwise) to jointly market a new product. In the Internet marketing world, you may find two gurus combine forces to sell a new ebook or software. Because… Continue reading

We all have our likes and dislikes; our strengths and weaknesses. No matter how much each of us might love the work we do, there will always be some aspects that will be less enjoyable than others. The parts of my job that I hate the most are the ones that I consider to be tedious. I’d rather tackle something that is difficult, or requires creativity, than do something that is mindlessly easy but boring. Nevertheless, the things that I find most tedious about my work still have to get done. Without them, the difficult or creative tasks are useless.
I’m in the middle of creating a new site for my latest idea. I’ve been having fun working on the design… Continue reading

An online friend of mine emailed me yesterday, and the opening line of the email was:
I’d like to transition to working for myself, but I’m not sure how to do it!
Now, this anonymous friend of mine has a lot of technical online knowhow, so I didn’t even bother pointing her to my series, How To Make A Living In Your Pajamas. If you need the technical steps, be sure to read those posts. But even though my friend said she didn’t know “how to do it”, she didn’t really mean the actual technical aspects of it. No, she needed the higher-level aspects.
She needed confirmation that she should start part time, while working at her day… Continue reading

I was surfing around and happened upon a blog by another woman named Donna, called Being Extraordinary Now! Donna describes her blog this way:
Deep inside each of us is a knowing that we are extraordinary. And while sometimes our lives may not reflect that, this site is dedicated to those who are committed to going beyond an ordinary existence – for passionate living now. Join me! Together we can create a community designed to support the extraordinary in each of us and go beyond where we have been before.
She also mentions that she “look for things extraordinary in my world.” Now, honestly, I haven’t had a chance to read many of the blog posts, but the concept itself is…well…extraordinary.
If you can bring out the extraordinary within you… Continue reading

Let me be honest here. I didn’t have a plan when I started working from home. I barely had more than a fleeting thought in my head, and I absolutely didn’t do anything as formal as an actual business plan. If I were going to start over from scratch, I probably still wouldn’t do a formal business plan. But I sure as heck would have more than a fleeting thought in my head, so I wouldn’t flounder around for as long as I did the first time around.
Planning is a good thing, but I don’t believe in letting planning get in the way of actually doing. It’s easy to plan and plan and plan and never actually do… Continue reading
