What Motivates You?

motivationToday, I blogged about motivation on my SEO blog, but that was directed towards a specific situation. Here, I’d like to discuss motivation in more general terms. Specifically, I’d like to ask you some questions. I’m interested in your thoughts and your processes. By sharing motivational strategies, I think we can all benefit from each other.

  • What motivates you? What gets you fired up?
  • Do you use any kind of motivational tools, and if so what are they?
  • Do you follow any motivational blogs or sites?

Now I leave this post in your hands. Talk to me about motivation.

  1. I don’t know why but I am always most motivated whenever I go to bed. It could mean that I am as motivated when I’m awake but the flesh is too weak to take any action :)

But the moment I lie in my bed, I have the motivation to, say, finish writing a chapter of my thesis, or plan my next blog post..

    Weird, I know :)

  2. Hi Donna…

I like apple pie and ice cream. So it motivates me to get a treadmill and gym membership.

What gets me fired up is when I check my stat logs and find 100s of people flooding to one of my demagogic articles from all kinds of places I’ve long forgotten.

But Tim Ferris’ book on having a business but not running it really got me fired up. It’s inspired me to take everything I’ve ever learned and start to mold it into something excellent. It took my understanding of things one step further and, frankly, I thought that would be very difficult given my situation.

    Thanks for asking,
    Sam

  3. Donna, I have two sources of motivation. The first is my wife. She shoots for the stars and really believes she’s going to hit them. She feels the same way about my endeavors which is inspiring.

I also take inspiration from my topic. I’ve always been a jack-of-all-trades, hoping from interest to interest. A few years back when I started studying finance and economics, a whole new outlook opened up to me.

David Allen’s Getting Things Done system has also helped me become more productive. I think staying productive is key to remaining motivated.

  4. I am motivated by a desire to create something that is beautiful or meaningful in some way. So I take photos. Then I sit down and look at them. Then I try to create something out of the photo using a photo editor. And then sometimes the photo sends me off with an idea into a verbal zone and I create a poem to go with the photo. All of this is part of the original process and why I am a blogger.
