There are plenty of web sites and blogs focused on the make money online niche topic. You’ll notice that although I may use that phrase, I focus more on the idea of making a living online. What’s the difference? Why do I make a distinction at all? It’s really pretty simple. It’s all a matter of mindset.

Anyone can make money online. If you just want a little extra cash to pay for your hosting or to buy a cup of coffee, you could do with your eyes closed and your hands tied behind your back. If you make one penny online in your entire life, you’ve accomplished the goal of making money online. A person with this goal can slap an ad of any sort on a site of any quality and expect to receive some sort of money in return for little effort.

Making a living online is a completely different goal and a completely different mindset. Making a living focuses your energies upon making enough money to meet your financial needs, on a steady basis, month after month. A little extra cash won’t work for the person who wants to make a living online. This person understands that making a living requires work, and in return for that work, enough money will be made to meet her needs.

Naturally, there are exceptions to every rule. There are those who are able to get rich off of a low-quality site with little to no effort, and there are those who work hard every day and make very little money.

But if your goal and mindset is that of making a living online, rather than making money online, you stand a much better chance of producing quality content and enjoying more fruits for your labor. Consider changing your mindset from that of “make money online” to that of “make a living online”.
